Agiorgitiko translates to 'Saint George'. The grape is named after the Saint George Church located within the Nemea appellation.
The wine is sometimes called the 'Blood of Hercules', because in Greek mythology, Hercules and the lion he famously slayed, lived in Nemea.
Nemea reds have increased in quality since the 1990s after more investments into high-tech wineries were made in the appellation.
