Weinbeschreibung | Pale straw yellow colour with greenish hues, floral aromas with a pleasant hint of fruit. The flavour is well-balanced and backed up by lively acidity. This wine is an excellent aperitif, especially in summer. We recommend drinking within the year after the harvest. This wine was first produced in 1980 and takes its name from the crumbly, rocky soil typical of the Chianti area. Galestro originally began in 1970 as a consortium consisting of Antinori, Frescobaldi, Ruffino and Ricasoli. Improving the quality of Chianti Classico by reducing the quantities of white grapes presented the problem of how to use a significant native grape variety like trebbiano which was no longer used in the Chianti Classico DOCG. So trebbiano grapes were used for a new white wine. The success of this wine was important because if the trebbiano grapes had not been used in this wine, it would have been difficult for winegrowers to vote in favour of the new Chianti DOCG production regulations. Capsula Viola left the Galestro DOC in 2002 with the addition of other white grape varieties from our Tuscan estates. |
