Marqués de Riscal has always been a pioneering company and a point of reference for the sector. In 1858 it had already become the first Rioja winery to make wines following the Bordeaux methods.
In 1972 it was the leading winery behind the creation of the Rueda appellation - where its famous white wines are produced - and in 1991 Barón de Chirel was launched, the first “high expression” wine (Barón de Chirel 1986).
In 2006, “The City of Wine” was inaugurated. This building, designed by the architect Frank O. Gehry, still the most avant-garde project undertaken by a Spanish wine cellar to date.
The winery sells its products in more than 110 countries and its wines have been honored with the highest international distinctions, as well as numerous awards and mentions in the specialist press.
Marqués de Riscal is firmly committed to organic farming with the range of 100% organic white wines. A more sustainable cultivation with as little intervention as possible and the maximum respect for the environment, the native fauna and the ecosystem, to extend the life of our vineyards as a future guarantee of the quality of our wines.
