Back by demand—and dangerously limited—this coastal stunner from Boars’ View is Pinot royalty. Made by Thomas Rivers Brown, one of Napa and Sonoma’s most revered winemakers (think Schrader and Rivers-Marie), this 2017 bottling is a tour de force in balance, finesse, and layered complexity. From vineyards neighboring cult legend Marcassin, it bursts with black cherry, plum, strawberry, and spice, evolving into notes of tea, licorice, and earthy tobacco. One reviewer wrote: “Makes Sea Smoke 10 seem like low-end swill”—okay, we still like Sea Smoke, but point taken. Aged 12 months in 50% new French oak, this is a cellar-worthy Pinot at an unheard price.
