Caymus owner and winemaker Chuck Wagner seeks out special pockets of land that have often been overlooked but hold the potential to make great Cab, based on the belief that when you find similar soils and climate, you can produce similar wine. Generally speaking, stony soils, south-facing slopes and moderately warm conditions are the key elements that make dark, rich and good-tasting Cabernet.
Chuck envisions a "lifting up" of both growers and communities in California that have not been in the spotlight. While Caymus began in Napa Valley, and that will always be its home, there is much to be excited about in a broader stretch of the Golden State.
