Carménère

青椒,黑莓和香料
In the 1800th century Carménère was widely planted in the French Region of Bordeaux, but failed to survive the phylloxery invasion, and only a very small amount is planted today.

On the southern hemisphere, the grape has found favor in the phylloxery-free wine country of Chile. For many years though, the grape was mistaken for the similar-looking Merlot, which also happens to be a distant relative, but DNA testing traced it back Carménère.

In Chile it is considered the national grape and on its own creates beautiful wines, but also makes as a popular blending partner with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Carménère is crimson in color with flavors and aromas of dark berries, spice and a hint of green peppers.
